Market Close: Indian benchmark indices ended lower on April 17 with Nifty around 17,700.
Infosys, Tech Mahindra, HCL Technologies, NTPC and Larsen and Toubro were among major losers on the Nifty, while gainers included Nestle India, Power Grid Corporation, SBI, Britannia Industries andCoal India.
On the sectoral front, the information technology index fell 4.7 percent and pharma index down 0.5 percent, while PSU Bank index up 3 percent and oil & gas and FMCG indices rose 1 percent each.
The BSE midcap index added 0.5 percent, while smallcap index up 0.15 percent.

निफ्टी पर गिरने वाले प्रमुख शेयरों में इंफोसिस, टेक महिंद्रा, एचसीएल टेक्नोलॉजीज, एनटीपीसी और लार्सन एंड टुब्रो शामिल थे, जबकि लाभ में नेस्ले इंडिया, पावर ग्रिड कॉर्पोरेशन, एसबीआई, ब्रिटानिया इंडस्ट्रीज और कोल इंडिया शामिल थे।
सेक्टोरल मोर्चे पर, सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी सूचकांक 4.7 प्रतिशत और फार्मा सूचकांक 0.5 प्रतिशत गिर गया, जबकि पीएसयू बैंक सूचकांक 3 प्रतिशत और तेल एवं गैस और एफएमसीजी सूचकांक प्रत्येक में 1 प्रतिशत की वृद्धि हुई।
बीएसई मिडकैप इंडेक्स में 0.5 फीसदी और स्मॉलकैप इंडेक्स में 0.15 फीसदी की तेजी आई।
